Jenna Axtell Fine Art
Throughout the exploration of my practice, key themes and ideas have followed through this process. I gained inspiration from images of the landscape of New Zealand, not only because of its history with natural disasters, but also the landscape which has formed over time. Using the imagery to inform my work, I found inspiration in the colours and textures which present themselves in the landscape.
Mount Ngauruhoe is an active stratovolcano, this means it is made of alternating layers of ash, scoria and andesite lava flows. The sides of the cone are steep, loose scree slopes covered in material from recent eruptions. It is the youngest vent in the Tongariro volcanic complex on the Central Plateau of the North Island, and first erupted about 2,500 years ago. Although often regarded as a separate mountain, geologically it is a secondary cone of Mount Tongariro.
